A rare and moving display of unity among wild animals was witnessed in Kendrapara district, leaving locals astonished and inspired. The incident occurred recently in the Mahakalapada block, where a troop of monkeys showed extraordinary solidarity in confronting a life-threatening situation, sources said on Thursday.

According to sources, a crocodile suddenly attacked and dragged one of the monkeys into the river. What followed was an unusual and courageous response. Instead of fleeing the spot, several other monkeys jumped into the river and chased the crocodile in an attempt to rescue their companion.
Despite their determined efforts, the monkeys were unable to free their companion from the predator’s grip. However, their willingness to fight together against a far stronger enemy highlighted a rare bond of unity and courage in the animal world.
At a time when humans often abandon one another in moments of danger, this incident has sparked widespread discussion in the locality. Many believe the monkeys’ collective bravery serves as a powerful reminder of solidarity, sacrifice, and the instinct to stand together against adversity.
“A crocodile in Kharinasi rivulet, a tributary of the River Mahanadi, pounced on a monkey and dragged it into the river. Seeing this, the other monkeys jumped into the river. To save their companion, they entered the water and swam toward the other side,” a local said.
“Although they could not rescue their fellow monkey from the crocodile’s jaws, they still showed unity and brotherhood among themselves. Someone from the locality recorded this incident on a mobile phone,” the resident stated.
Notably, in the Mahakalapada block, including Ramnagar, Baulakani, Suniti, Kansar, Petachhela, Ekalpur, Bijayanagar, Chandiapali, Bankichhanda, Orata, and surrounding areas, crocodiles are found in large numbers in all the rivers and rivulets.
Many times, they prey on land-dwelling animals. Instances of crocodile attacks on human beings are also there in the Mahakalapada block.
