‘Modi’s Odisha visit will be key to BJP’s look east formula’

Bhubaneswar: As BJP eyes to make inroads into the eastern parts of the country, the saffron party’s Odisha unit president, Basant Panda today expressed his confidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will prove to be a trump card in party’s ‘look east’ strategy.

Panda said “PM Modi’s visit to Odisha on December 24 will not only spur new life and excitement among the party workers, but also it will be vital for the party’s mission 120 plus seats in Odisha.”

During this visit Modi will take part in a government programme and unveil projects worth Rs 14,523 crore.  Later on, he will address a mega public rally at Gosala ground in Khurda where he is likely to sound the poll bugle for the general elections. Sources said the PM will give his mantra to the party workers ahead of the elections. Just like his last visit to Talcher and Jharsuguda three months ago, Modi will also train guns at the ruling BJD over several issues and narrate his party’s developmental agenda, said sources.

Sources informed that Modi will make multiple visits to Odisha ahead of the elections. Even as the exact dates of the visits are not finalised yet, party sources said that the PM could visit north and western parts of Odisha on January 5 and 16, respectively.

However, the BJD claimed that the PM’s developmental agenda will have no effect on the ruling party’s prospects.

“We have already seen how their (BJP’s) poll prospects faltered miserably during the recent assembly elections in five states. So we are sure that its developmental agenda campaign will be ineffective in Odisha,” said BJD vice president Surjya Narayan Patro.

Meanwhile, the Commissionerate Police has made elaborate security arrangements for the PM’s visit. As many as 30 platoons of police force and 150 officers will be engaged to ensure safety and security during PM’s visit, informed sources.
