(image) Bhubaneswar: In a novel way to demand the release of the abducted Malkangiri district collector and an engineer, Congress MLA and tribal woman leader Mamta Madhi today stood silently for an hour in the Orissa Assembly holding a placard with her appeal.

Madhi, who represents Chitrakonda reserved constituency in Malkangiri district, stood during the entire question hour conveying her appeal to the Maoists as well as the government.

"I appeal to the government and Maoists for release of the district collector and junior engineer," said the placard held by her.

"The entire administration in Malkangiri has come to a halt in the absence of the district collector following his abduction by Maoists," she said outside the House.

No government and private offices or schools and colleges are functioning in the district, she said, adding an experienced officer should be immediately posted as a collector.

She had already met chief minister Naveen Patnaik and conveyed her suggestion, Madhi added.
