Cuttack: The body of a youth who was missing since Tuesday was recovered by the police on Saturday. However, cops are yet to disclose the exact place from where the body was found.

The youth, identified as Sheikh Harif, son of S.K Saheed of Choudwar area in Cuttack district was working in Angul. On September 11, when Harif was going to Angul in a bus, he got down at Khutuni bus stand to buy something from a nearby shop.

“After buying some items from the shop, Harif returned back to the bus. Later, he realised that he had forgotten to take the remaining money from Rs 500 that he handed over to the shopkeeper,” a relative of Harif said.

“When he went to the shop asking the money, the shopkeeper said that he had given Rs 100 instead of Rs 500 following which a spat erupted between the two. Later, the shopkeeper and some of his associates attacked Harif,” he added.

In the meantime, Harif called his employer over his mobile phone and informed that he was attacked by some youth at Khutuni and thereafter he went missing.

On Saturday, police officials informed Harif’s family members about a body that have been kept in the mortuary ward of the SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack. Following the information, Harif’s father Saheed rushed to the hospital and identified the body as Harif.

“When I went to the police station to lodge an FIR after getting information from Harif’s employer, cops denied to register the case saying that it is a missing case and asked me to wait,” alleged Saheed.

“We have been searching for him since last two days and found his dead body in the hospital on Saturday,” he added.

On the other hand, Khutuni police officials are yet to comment on the matter.
