Sambalpur: Body of woman, who went missing from Bahalpada village in Sambalpur district on January 1, was found buried following which Dhanupali Police exhumed the decomposed body today.

A team of Dhanupali Police rushed to a jungle near Amburi village along with the deceased woman Arati Devi's husband Kunal Singh and exhumed her body in the presence of the District Magistrate and forensic team.

Kunal Singh had reportedly filed a missing complaint with Dhanupali Police on January 3 two days after his wife Arati, a native of Rampur in Bihar, went missing.

When Arati's family members reached Bahalpada village after getting information about her disappearance, they found that Kunal and his family members had fled. Later, suspecting foul play, they lodged an FIR at Mahila Police Station against Kunal and his family members on January 7.

In their FIR, Devi's family members had alleged that she was murdered by her husband and in-laws. Based on the complaint, police initiated an investigation into the matter and arrested Kunal and his elder brother while other family members are still at large.

"Based on the information provided by the accused, we came to the spot and dug out the woman's body. The body will be sent to the hospital for post-mortem. Further investigation is underway," said Sambalpur Additional Superintendent of Police.
