Sambalpur: Unidentified miscreants allegedly set fire to property inside Board of Secondary Education (BSE) office in Sambalpur today. Several important documents, records of students as well as two vehicles belonging to the employees of the BSE were gutted in the incident.

The BSE officials informed that nearly eight to ten persons stormed into the office and asked why the office was opened today. Later, they toppled the furniture and set fire to the office.

“We suspect the involvement of bar association members even though the persons who came to the office were in plain clothes. They questioned our staff why the board office was open today. Even though we told them that application process is underway for the 2019 matriculation examination, they did not listen to us,” said BSE deputy secretary, Surjyamani Majhi.

Majhi informed that the incident occurred at around 2 PM today.

Following the incident, fire services personnel reached the spot and doused the flames. Senior police officials including Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora and Collector also visited the spot.

“Several documents and two vehicles have been gutted. However, the situation has been brought under control,” said a senior fire official.

SP Sanjeev Arora informed that once BSE officials lodge a complaint, a case will be registered and appropriate action will be taken. “Two vehicles have been gutted and further investigation to ascertain the identity of those involved in the incident is on,” said Arora.
