Puri: A home guard was critically injured after being attacked by two miscreants with sharp weapons near Gokha area under Baseli police limits in the town early morning today.

The injured home guard Gunamani Rout has been admitted to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital where his condition is stated to be stable now.

“I was sitting when all of a sudden two miscreants came and hit my head with a sharp weapon. When I tried to rescue myself, they attacked my hand. However, I managed to escape the spot,” alleged Rout.

Reports said, two days earlier, two local youths hurled bombs on a man identified as Bighnewsar Swain over a land related dispute. Following the incident, police intensified patrolling in the region to avoid any violent incident further.

At around 5.30 am today, police officials deployed in patrolling spotted and tried to intercept two bike-borne youths suspected to be involved in the bomb hurling incident.

However, they managed to flee the spot and later attacked lone Gunamani, who was deployed in duty at Masan Chandi Chhak with sharp weapons.
