Minor girl ‘sexually assaulted’ in Bhubaneswar, self-styled Baba arrested

Nandankanan police on Sunday arrested a self-proclaimed baba on charges of sexual assault on a minor girl at Kendupatna area in Bhubaneswar. The incident came to light when the victim girl’s family filed a complaint at Nandankanan police station regarding the misconduct.

The accused has been identified as Mahima baba Amar Das.

According to reports, the accused, was taken into custody by Nandanakanan Police following allegations of sexual assault against the minor. A case has been registered under the stringent provisions of the POCSO Act.

As per the allegation by the victim's family members, the alleged incident occurred when the girl had gone to perform a puja. Finding her alone, the baba is alleged to have sexually assaulted the minor. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway, police said.

Earlier in August this year, a similar incident had been reported when a self-styled Baba was detained over rape allegation in Dhenkanal.

The victim woman, who worked as a cook/helper in the ashram’s eatery (Bhojanalaya), filed a formal complaint alleging that the Baba sexually assaulted her one night while she was sleeping inside the ashram premises. She also claimed that the accused engaged in inappropriate and immoral behaviour leading up to the incident.
