Minor Girl 'Raped' In Bhadrak, Accused Arrested

Bhadrak: Adding to unabated rise in sexual harassment cases against women and girls in Odisha, a minor girl was allegedly raped by a youth in Keshpur village under Rambila panchayat of Bhadrak. The accused was arrested by the police today after the matter came to the fore.

According to reports, the survivor who belongs to the tribal community was raped on December 10 but out of fear she chose to remain silent. However, after her health condition started to deteriorate, she narrated the ordeal to her mother.

Later, the survivor was admitted to District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition. Sources said the accused committed the crime when family members of the survivor were away from the house for attending a function.

The girl's family has lodged a complaint at Bhadrak Rural Police station in connection with the incident.

“I came to know about the matter after my wife told me about the deteriorating condition of our daughter,” said father of the survivor.

Police investigation is currently underway.
