Minor Girl Ends Life In Odisha On Kumar Purnima

Bhubaneswar: Apparently upset over refusal of her parents to buy her a new dress on the occasion of Kumar Purnima festival, a 15-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Khurda district today.

The incident reported to have taken place at Panikata village under Balipatna police limits in Khurda district. The minor girl has been identified as Chandini Sahoo.

According to sources, the minor girl had insisted her father to buy her a new dress on Kumar Purnima, which is significant for unmarried women who keep fast with the popular belief of getting their suitable groom. However, when her family members expressed inability to fulfill her demand, the minor girl allegedly got into an argument with them before consuming pesticide.

The family members immediately rushed her to nearby hospital from where she was referred to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. However, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The police visited the hospital and got the post-mortem of the minor conducted before handing over her body to the family members.
