A minor boy has been detained by police in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a seven-year-old Tibetan girl in the Chandragiri outpost area under Mohana police station in Odisha’s Gajapati district.
Police officials confirmed that the accused is a minor Odia student from the same locality. A case has been registered based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, and the boy has been detained for questioning.
Incident Details
According to police sources, the incident allegedly took place when the child’s parents had gone to attend a family function. The accused minor is alleged to have taken advantage of the situation and committed the offence. After being informed of the incident, the girl’s family approached the police and filed a formal complaint.
Following the complaint, police initiated legal proceedings and took the minor into custody. Authorities said the accused will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, as mandated under the law.
Background and Sensitivity of the Case
Sources said the victim’s family had earlier extended support to the accused minor on several occasions, including assistance related to education and financial matters, which has added sensitivity to the case.
The girl is scheduled to be presented before the District Child Welfare Committee for necessary care and support. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) also visited the area and supervised the investigation.
