Minor boy drowns while taking bath after Holi celebrations in Odisha’s Cuttack

A sad incident unfolded near the T-Bridge in Badamba locality of Cuttack district after a minor boy drowned on Wednesday, while taking a bath following Holi celebrations. The deceased has been identified as Jiban Behera of Tunapur village under Badamba police limits. The mishap occurred near a temporary bridge constructed close to the T-Bridge.

According to sources, three minor boys from Tunapur village had gone to the spot to wash off Holi colours and take a bath in the water body. While bathing, Jiban Behera was swept away by the strong flow of river water.

On being informed, personnel from Banki-Baideswar fire services rushed to the scene and rescued the boy from the Mahanadi river stream. He was immediately taken to Badamba hospital for treatment. However, doctors at the hospital declared him ‘dead’.

The fatal incident has cast a pall of gloom over Badamba locality, especially as the tragedy occurred during festive celebrations.

No comments were received either from the victim’s family or local police in this regard.

Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident, a minor boy had allegedly drowned while taking a bath along with his friend in the River Mahanadi in Boudh district, on March 1. The minor Aditya Bhanja of Sudasahi was swept away while bathing at Kulipada ghat.

The exact circumstances under which he was swept away remain unclear. Soon after the matter came to light, Boudh fire services team had reached the spot and launched a search operation. After striving for hours, Aditya’s body was finally recovered.
