Minor boy dies in scooter-SUV crash in Puri, tension flares up

A road accident at Puri’s Badadanda claimed the life of a minor on Friday morning after a Bolero rammed into a scooter near Balgandi Chhak. The deceased has been identified as a Class V student.

According to reports, the boy was out with his grandfather to bring some snacks when a Bolero hit the scooter from behind. The collision left the victims critically injured, and they were rushed to the hospital immediately. The boy was immediately shifted to the operating theatre, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The incident reportedly involved a series of accidents, where the Bolero also hit a man going on his cycle. However, no official confirmation has surfaced.

The relatives of the deceased have alleged that the driver of SUV was driving the vehicle in an intoxicated condition.

Following the accident, tensions escalated at the spot, with infuriated locals surrounding the Bolero.

‘The Bolero rammed the scooter from behind and dragged the victims for some distance before fleeing the spot. An elderly man was also injured in the accident, but the vehicle didn't stop, and they ran over the child,’ said an eyewitness.

The Kumbharpada police rushed to the spot and managed to pacify the agitated crowd. Police have seized the vehicle and launched a probe into the accident. An investigation is underway to reveal further details.
