Keonjhar: In a drive to check illegalities in mining, the Joda Deputy Director(Mines) today issued show cause notices to 57 minikng companies and asked to the companies to furnish business details between 2004 to 2009.

The Deputy Director has alleged that the mining companies which have been served notices flouted environmental rules and violated contract clauses. It is allged that the companies raised much more quantity of ore than the permission granted by the environment ministry and were engaged in mining without any mining plan incluiding raising ore from areas much beyond the lease areas. The companies which which have been served notices included SN Mining Limited, PMPAL, BD Pattanayak & Co, OMDC, Tisco, B R Pattanayak & Co and public sector OMC.
