Met department issues thunderstorm alert for 3 Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre here has issued thunderstorm and rainfall alert for three districts- Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore between 2 PM and 5 PM today.

“Moderate lightning with light rainfall and gusty wind speed reaching to 30 to 40 kmph likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore,” a press statement issued by the Met department said.

The thunderstorm activity is likely to provide some respite from hot and sultry weather as it continues to bring hardship to the people. As many as 5 stations recorded temperatures between 40 and 42 degree Celsius while 11 others recorded between 35 and 40 degree Celsius on Wednesday. Titlagarh recorded the highest 43.5 degree Celsius on the day.

The weather forecast predicts that the State is likely to witness an average maximum temperature of over 42 degree Celsius in the upcoming week.
