Men Occupying Ladies’ Seats In Buses To Be Penalised Soon

Bhubaneswar: In order to ensure safe and passenger-friendly travel for women commuters in buses in the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, the authorities have decided to soon implement strict regulations and levy penalties against male passengers who occupy ladies’ seats.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting between top officials of Commissionerate Police, representatives of five local Bus Owners’ Associations, SPOs at Police Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

For streamlining lodging of complaints in connection with any untoward incidents and safety of women passengers, it has been decided to set up an emergency toll free number for display inside the buses.

Apart from this, a lady official of Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) will also be added in the WhatsApp group of women Special Police Officers (SPO) for better coordination between the police, public and transport authorities in case of any complaints by any lady passenger.
