Meet Odisha’s ‘Iron Man’, Who Is 103-Year-Old & Still Running Strong

Bhadrak: For Dinabandhu Sutar of Narasinghpur in Bhadrak district, age is truly just a number. Even in the dusk of his life, Dinabandhu is still running strong to destroy everyone’s age stereotypes.

With sheer willpower and enviable endurance unnatural to his age, Dinabandhu has always ignited his undying love for his profession.

Dinabandhu, who was born on August 1, 1917, has been working as blacksmith ever since he was 15 and even when he is a centenarian now, he still lifts a five kg hammer and does his work like any other young man.

From sickles to crowbars and, Dinabandhu wields iron materials of all types with finesse so much so that it makes customers prefer his hand-made equipments more than the factory products.

“Whatever he (Sutar) produces lasts long and works fine,” said Batakrushna Das, a customer.

Sutar has three sons who are already settled, however, he says that he never wants to rest nor wants to be dependent on anyone even for a single day in his life.

Locals say that apart from minor cold and cough, Dinabandhu has never fallen sick and is same as he was 15 years ago.

“He loves his profession very much. He has never fallen sick. He never sits idle but does his work like a young man,” Anuradha Sutar, Dinabandhu’s sister-in-law.

When asked about the secret behind his health, Dinabandhu said, “People of this generation are taking contaminated food. Everywhere chemical is used but we used to consume pure food.”
