Kalahandi: The Junagarh Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court on Friday rejected the bail plea of managing trustee of Selvam Educational and Charitable Trust, A Johnsel Raja in connection with the Sardar Rajas Medical College and Hospital fraud and sent him to Dharamgarh jail in Kalahandi Friday night. However, he was admitted to hospital today after he complained of chest pain.
"Basing on the facts of investigation, JMFC judge Babita Das rejected the bail petition of Raja and sent him to judicial custody till August 13," informed prosecutor Digambar Nayak.
Raja was nabbed by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Crime Branch from Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu on July 26. He was first admitted to Kanyakumari government hospital after he complained of illness.
Later, Raja was shifted to Rajaji Medical College and Hospital on July 31 and was discharged from the hospital on August 2.
According to sources, Raja was brought to Junagarh in Kalahandi district from Tamil Nadu at around 10.30 yesterday night and produced before the Junagarh JMFC Court.
As per reports, Selvam Educational and Charitable Trust had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Western Odisha Development Council (WODC) in 2004 for the medical college in Kalahandi.
The WODC had also provided Rs 10 crore and requisite land for the medical project. However, it was alleged that despite getting all facilities, the Trust managed by Raja failed to complete the infrastructural works that was one of the pre-requisite for making the medical college and hospital operational.

He had also obtained permission from Medical Council of India (MCI) for admission to MBBS courses for two academic sessions, 2013-14 and 2014-15 by producing fake documents, sources said.
When the irregularities came to light, the MCI did not grant permission for admission for the third session, i.e. 2015-16. Despite knowing that the MCI would not grant permission for admission into the third academic year, Raja allegedly collected huge amount of money from 124 students as capitation fee and caution money. However, the college was subsequently closed in mid-session and the college misappropriated the total money collected.
