Bhubaneswar: Pramod Kumar Sai, the elder brother of arrested ex-MLA Anup Sai, has filed a defamation complaint at Brajarajnagar Police Station in Jharsuguda accusing media houses and web channels in Odisha of spreading false and fabricated news in connection with the MLA's arrest over his alleged involvement in the brutal murder of one Kalpana Das and her minor daughter near Hamirpur forest in Chhattisgarh in 2016.

Seeking intervention of the IIC, Pramod Sai alleged, "After the arrest of my younger brother in connection with a so called murder case which as per Chhattisgarh police occurred in 2016, some media houses of our State are spreading false and fabricated news on daily basis accusing my close family members. I have to look after my physically challenged niece (daughter of Anup Sai) and our mother who is a nonagenarian. Going through such fabricated news is causing severe mental harassment and the reputation of other family members, who are staying away, has been hampered beyond imagination due to such activities of media houses."

Distressed over reports of movie on Anup Sai’s link with the double murder, Pramod said, "We have gone through news on making of an Odia movie relating to this so-called case is in process. Being the head of the family having so much social reputation, I feel insulted by such news which I feel is being intentionally spread with a wrong motive to satisfy their ulterior motive."

He further alleged that by such fabricated stories, all his family members are living in a state of shock and getting terrorised causing serious health consequences.

"I, therefore, request you to take this matter very seriously and give sufficient directive to such media houses to stop publishing and spreading false and fabricated news stories and also intervene in the movie-making process. Please initiate proper action to withdraw any such permission given to web channels that are spreading false and fabricated news stories on a daily basis. I also request you to see no such false stories are published or broadcast in print and electronic media," Pramod Sai said to the IIC in his complaint.

He further warned, "I will be forced to move the proper court of law to sue the publishing houses for defamation to protect the reputation of my family members which is being ruined by such false and fabricated news."
