Bhubaneswar: With the first phase of counselling for admission against the 85% State quota seats in medical colleges to be held between July 21 and July 25, a good news is waitng for medical science aspirants in Odisha. The Medical Council of India (MCI) on Friday approved 100 MBBS seats for the newly set up Sardar Raja Medical college in Bhawanipatna of Kalahandi district.

The country’s apex body for medical education has also allowed the college to admit students from the current academic session into these approved seats. With such approval, the intake capacity of MBBS seats in the State has reached 850.

Last month, MCI had recommended to increase MBBS seats from 150 to 250 at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

According to sources, the phase-I of all-India counselling by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) will end on July 20.

Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) authorities have also decided to conduct the centralized counselling at a single venue in Bhubaneswar.

The second round of state-level counselling will be held in the third week of August, once the second round of DGHS counselling gets over, sources added.
