Thousands of visitors, from local residents to farmers, have gathered to catch a glimpse of the prized animal, named ‘Shoorveer’, brought all the way from Haryana for the three day event. The six year old bull weighs approximately 17 quintals and has drawn crowds similar to other high profile livestock attractions seen at fairs in the state.

Visitors are intrigued not only by Shoorveer’s size and price tag but also by its remarkable diet and daily routine. The bull’s daily upkeep costs Rs 4,000, and its feeding schedule has amazed many. In the mornings, it is given curd based buttermilk and milk, at midday it eats various fruits and leafy greens, and in the evenings it is fed carrots, beetroot, radish and multi vitamins to maintain its health and strength.

Milk Yield and Breeding Potential

Shoorveer is reportedly a valuable dairy asset for livestock breeders. Organisers revealed that offers of up to Rs 25 crore were made to purchase the bull, but these were declined by the owners.

A Haryana based milk supplier attending the event thanked the Odisha government for the opportunity to showcase Shoorveer and said the display aims to raise awareness among Odisha farmers about superior livestock practices. Discussions are underway on how Shoorveer’s semen, which is priced at around Rs 300–Rs 500 per injection, can be used for artificial insemination to improve milk production in other herds.

As the three‑day Matsya–Pranee Samavesh continues to draw visitors at Janata Maidan, Shoorveer’s presence highlights the growing focus on livestock excellence and dairy innovation in the region. Organisers hope that such exhibits will not only entertain but also inspire farmers to adopt improved breeding and animal‑husbandry practices that could enhance milk production and rural livelihoods across Odisha. The fair serves as a platform to promote modern livestock management and strengthen the state’s agricultural and dairy sectors.
