A terrifying incident of armed robbery took place in Jhinkapada village under Kaptipada police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Sunday evening. According to reports, four masked miscreants broke into the residence of an elderly couple, physically assaulted them, and made away with gold jewellery and cash worth several lakhs of rupees.
The assailants reportedly struck the husband on the head, threatened the couple at gunpoint, and ransacked the house before locking the victims inside and fleeing the spot. Locals later rescued the couple and informed the police.
Shockingly, this is not the first time the family has been targeted. The same house was reportedly looted a few months ago, and despite a police case being registered at the time, no arrests were made in connection with that incident.
Details of the Robbery
Kartikeswar Sahoo, the victim, said, “Four miscreants entered the house at 7 pm, carrying machetes and a gun. They physically assaulted me and my wife, took away the jewellery which my wife was wearing, and also took the wardrobe keys. Cash and jewellery kept inside the wardrobe were looted, including around Rs 60,000 in cash. From their dialect, they appeared to be local residents.”
Rescue and Police Investigation
Neighbours rescued the couple approximately three hours after the incident. Following a complaint filed at the police station, an investigation has been initiated into the robbery. Authorities are examining the circumstances and working to identify the perpetrators.
