Cuttack: The officials of Irrigation department today informed that the work on the proposed bridge over Taladanda Canal from Settlement Office to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack would be completed by March 2019. The deadline was announced by Choudwar-Cuttack MLA Pravat Ranjan Biswal who today visited the construction site and held discussions with concerned officials.

“Today, we have reviewed the on-going construction work and we hope that the project would be completed by March 2019,” said Biswal.

Biswal further informed that though tenders were invited twice for the project, no company had shown interest or had taken part in the process which led to the delay in the construction work. But after the contract was awarded to the Odisha Construction Corporation Limited, the project started from November 2017 and work is now going on in full swing.

Official sources said that the length of the proposed bridge is 60 metres and it would be seven metres wide. The bridge will improve road connectivity between Jobra and Ranihat and also SCB medical and Bhubanananda Odisha School of Engineering campus.

“The cost of the project is Rs 6 crore and initially there were several hiccups owing to the presence of several public utilities that had to relocated,” said executive engineer, Baleswar Sahoo.
