Maoists burn vehicles of private construction company
Sambalpur: A group of armed Maoists on Tuesday set ablaze at least 25 vehicles of a private construction company and looted a gun from the security guard in Odisha`s Sambalpur district, police said.
The incident took place Tuesday afternoon when about 15 armed Maoists took staff and workers of the construction company hostage and later asked them to hand over their cell phones in Mundher village.
"The hostage persons were taken to a nearby jungle where they stayed till the Maoists damaged the vehicles. They were later released and no one was injured in the incident," Sambalpur`s SP Nikhil Kanodia told reporters.
They exploded bombs and used diesel to afire different vehicles and machines used by the private construction company.
The Maoists left the place immediately after damaging the vehicles, the SP said adding that combing operations have been intensified in the area.
