Malkangiri: Maoists blew up a gram panchayat godown at Mudulipada in Malkangiri district early today, police sources said.

Over 50 armed cadres set off explosives in the godown blowing off its roof and walls, the sources said.

The Maoists also put up two posters asking the government not to brand innocent `Bonda` tribals as Maoists and withdraw security personnel deployed against the ultras. "We have information that the grampanchayat godown at Mudulipada has been damaged by an explsion. Police forces have rushed to the spot," IIC of Mudulipada police station, Rajesh Kumar Chhatria said.

Maoists had been eyeing the godown ostensibly to stop it from being used as accommodation for security personnel engaged in anti-Maoist operations. Mudulipada and Andrahal are two grampanchayats in Malkangiri district where the primitive `Bonda` tribe dwells.
