(image) Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident R. Vineel Krishna, the collector of Naxal-infested Malkangiri district, was kidnapped on Wednesday night when he had gone on to attend a mega public relation camp at Badapada village in Chitrakonda, a remote and cut-off location in the district.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon.While the place was only communicable through the waterway, the collector along with project director of DRDA, two junior engineers and his personal security officer had gone there by motor boat. After the end of the programme in the afternoon the collector and his team had gone to Jantapai from Paparmetla to inspect developmental work.

According to reports, few Naxal supporters came across the collector and his team on the way to Jantapai, diverted him to an unknown location and from there around 50 armed Naxalites took him to dense forest area. But initially Damodar Suchen, one of the two junior engineers who accompanied the collector, could make an escape and gave the information to the police.

Later on the other abducted persons came out of the grip of the Naxalites and had met the district SP at 11 pm in the night. The Naxalites in a letter written to the district administration stated their

demand and have given 48 hour notice to the administration for fulfillment it.

The demands of the ultras are to stop the joint operations against them, to dislocate the BSF camp from the district and to free all the persons imprisoned in suspected maoist activities among other things. The police administration in the meantime has started massive operation to trace the collector out.

Thirty-year-old Vineel Krishna, an IIT-Madras graduate had joined the administrative service in 2005. Krishna was posted as the District Collector of Malkangiri 16 months ago. He is known to be popular with the local people and interacts closely with them.
