Maoist sympathiser Dandapani Mohanty’s son arrested

Berhampur: Maoist sympathiser and convener of Jana Adhikar Manch Dandapani Mohanty’s son Sangram Mohanty and one of his accomplices were arrested on charges of supporting the outlawed CPI (Maoists) and having arms illegally today at Kamalapur square near Mohana, police said.

At least 95 rounds of bullet, two pistols, Maoists booklet, a motor bike and Maoist materials were seized from their possession, they added. Cases under section 120(B), 121, 121 (A), 124(A), 163 (B) of Indian Penal Code and sections of Arm act, unlawful activities act have been registered against the nabbed naxal supporters.

On the other hand, Dandapani lodged complaint at Baidyanathpur police station in Berhampur alleging that police abducted his son while he was returning from a garage with his bike.

“Ganjam and Gajapati SP have planned to eliminate my family and as a part of their plan, police in civil dress have abducted my son near Kamalpur square”, Mohanty said.

Notably, Dandapani had played a key role in mediating between government and Maoists during Italian hostage crisis. Similarly, the Maoist mediator had an important role in the relase of former Malkangiri collector R Vineel Krishna from the clutches of red extremists.
