Maoist Martyrs’ Week: Rebels organise camp, oppose Gurupriya Bridge
Malkangiri: Even as security has been tightened in view of the Maoists martyrs’ week, the rebels were successful in organising a camp on the Odisha-Andhra border on Saturday, sources said.
The Maoist camp, held at the border of Ralegada panchayat in Malkangiri and Korukunda of Andhra Pradesh, was attended by over 600 Maoist sympathisers and leaders of nearby panchayats.
During the camp which is said to be organised by the Odisha-Andhra Border Zonal Committee of the Maoists, the leaders opposed the Gurupriya Bridge that was recently inaugurated by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The ultras are opposing the Gurupriya Bridge on allegations that it will act against the interests of the tribals in the cut-off region in Malkangiri.
This apart, the Maoists through posters in Kandhamal, Koraput, and Bargarh districts have urged people to extend support to the Shahid Saptah being observed in Odisha.
Meanwhile, the operation of government bus services to Malkangiri and Rayagada districts have remained suspended as a precautionary measure on the second day of the Maoists martyrs’ week today.
