Bhubaneswar: Odisha police on Thursday took the top Maoist leader Duna Keshav Rao alias Azad into custody and produced him before the SDJM court, Nayagarh.

Azad had surrendered before the Andhra Pradesh DGP raising many eye brows about his decision.

After the ultra’s surrender on May 12, a team of the Crime Branch from Odisha had been to Andhra Pradesh to bring him for interrogation. But, the team was said to take Azad into custody only after the Andhra Pradesh police complete its interrogation.

Azad who is said to be an accused in the Swami Laxamanananda Saraswati killing case, had made the Odisha police spend sleepless nights for his arrest.

Earlier, speaking to OTV Azad had said that he has only executed the orders of his party (CPI, Maoist) by killing Saraswati.
