Deogarh: The latest hike in the packages for surrendered ultras has paid rich dividends just a day after the announcement. A Maoist couple driven by the packages has surrendered before the district police today.

Amar Mirdha alias Ambedkar hailed from Tapopada-Dampasingh joined the Maoist outfit in 2002. While with the CPI (Maoist) Amar married lady cadre Arati Kumara. Amar was involved in the killing of Kadar Singh which had taken place in Meghapala in 2002-2003. Several other cases were pending against him in different police stations in the district," said Chitta Ranjan Dash, superintendent of police, Deogarh. The couple has two kids.

The police superintendent informed that the couple has been included in the B-Category of surrendered ultras. "They would be paid their packages specified for B-Category of surrendered ultras," said Chitta Ranjan. The couple would get Rs 1 lakh each and another Rs 25,000 for purchasing land. The surrender of the Mirdha couple was the first instance of Maoist surrender in the state after the government hiked the packages for surrendered left wing extremists.
