Use of manja-coated kite strings continues to pose serious threats to public safety across Odisha despite continuous awareness, bans and warnings.
In yet another disturbing incident, a young man was seriously injured after coming into contact with a sharp manja-coated kite string in Cuttack on Thursday.
As per reports, the incident occurred in the Khan Nagar traffic area when the thread, reportedly coated with glass or metal, slit him across the nose while he was riding a bike, causing severe bleeding.
The injured youth was immediately rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.
Local police have started an investigation into the incident. Authorities have once again appealed to the public to strictly avoid using manja-coated kite strings, emphasising that such practices endanger the lives of commuters, pedestrians, and birds.

The day before, two people were seriously injured after coming in contact with the sharp kite thread in two separate incidents in Balasore and Dhenkanal.
Similarly, a couple of days earlier, a young man narrowly escaped death after sustaining serious injuries from a manja-coated kite string in the Pokhariput area of Bhubaneswar.
These incidents have once again raised concerns over the unsafe use of kite strings, especially sharp or glass-coated threads, which pose a serious risk to commuters and pedestrians during festive periods.
