Bhubaneswar: In a turn of fate, a man who had allegedly hired goons to kill his sister was killed by the hired killers, police said.

The incident took place in Odisha's Angul district where police arrested three of the four youths involved in the killing of 30-year-old Samar Das. His body was recovered from railway tracks on September 7.

Quoting the confession statements of the alleged hired killers who were arrested yesterday, the police said Das had hired the gang of four killers to murder his sister Namita Das (35).

Das was angry over his sister Namita who entered into an alleged illicit relationship with his brother Abhimanyu Das (41).

"The three arrested persons have confessed to their crime. However, the prime accused in the case is absconding," said Angul police station inspector-in-charge Subha Narayana Muduli.

In his bid to eliminate Namita, Samar had fixed the deal at Rs 3 lakh to kill her. However, the four men failed to execute the murder despite two attempts, police said.

Since Samar was getting desperate, they told him on September 7 that they had already killed her. They called him to come with the money as decided earlier and see the body near a railway track. When Samar went there on a motorcycle, they hacked him to death and fled, Muduli told reporters.

For the four, killing Samar or his sister would have meant the same pecuniary gain.

The arrested persons admitted to have taken Rs 52,000 from Samar before hacking him to death.

Quoting prelimnary investigation report, Muduli said Samar had first contacted Pratap Sahoo, a resident of Nuapada village near Angul who readily agreed and contacted three others, including his fellow villager Jayanta Dehury, Narottam Naik of Kumurusingha village and Duryodhan Naik of Kurudol village.
