Nuapada: A man who allegedly indulged in extorting money by posing himself as a Maoist was arrested in naxal-affected Nuapada district, police said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Bishnu Chatri (23) of Mahasmmund in neighbouring Chhatisgarh, was nabbed on Saturday from Kotenchuan area while demanding money from a villager, Inspector In-Charge of Nuapada S M Rahman said.

A book on Maoism and a toy gun were recovered from Chatri after he was overpowered by villagers and handed over to the police, he said.

Chatri had been extorting money from various people in the village for sometime now but on Saturday the villagers took the bold step, police said.
