Jajpur: A youth allegedly beaten up by a murder convict in Jaraka area of the district succumbed to the injuries at Dharmasala Hospital today. The deceased was identified as Sanatan Samal of Tikar Sahi in Jaraka.

What’s shocking and sensational in the incident is the accused Giri Mandal of Dharmasala area, is a murder convict and was released from the prison two years ago.

Reportedly, Mandal was released from the jail after spending a life imprisonment term on charges of murdering his wife.

As per sources, an argument ensued between Sanatan and Mandal last evening following which Mandal assaulted Sanatan physically and kicked him hard.

Critically injured, Sanatan was rushed to the Dharmasala hospital by his family members, but he succumbed to the injuries on the way, sources said.

Alleging that Sanatan died due to the physical assault, family members of the deceased along with locals staged a road blockade at the Sankharidiha Chhak near Jaraka on the National Highway-16.

Later on getting information, police rushed to the spot to pacify the agitators following which the situation was brought under control.

Meanwhile, sources said police have detained the accused and interrogating him while further investigation into the incident is still on.
