Man hacks wife to death in Bolangir, hospitalised after assault by family

A woman was allegedly hacked to death by her husband following a domestic dispute in Jarlakani village under Deogaon police station limits in Bolangir district late on Wednesday night. Police launched an investigation into the incident, which is being treated as a case of murder linked to a family altercation.

The deceased has been identified as Tapa Mallik, while the accused husband has been identified as Madhab Mallik. No official statement could be obtained from the police or family members regarding the exact sequence of events leading to the incident.

Incident Linked To Domestic Dispute

According to reports, the couple had an argument, following which Madhab Mallik allegedly attacked his wife with an axe in a state of agitation. Tapa Mallik sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot. The precise reason for the dispute remains unclear, and police are investigating what triggered the argument between the husband and wife.

Accused Assaulted By Family Members

Following the incident, members of the accused’s family reportedly objected to his actions and assaulted him. Madhab Mallik sustained serious injuries in the attack and was initially admitted to the Deogaon Community Health Centre for treatment.

As his condition required advanced medical care, he was later shifted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir. His condition was stated to be stable at the time of reporting.

Police Action And Investigation

Deogaon police reached the spot after receiving information and seized the body of Tapa Mallik for further legal procedures. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances that led to the murder and the sequence of events following the incident.

Police said efforts are underway to gather statements and verify details related to the domestic dispute.
