Berhampur: Police today arrested two persons allegedly involved in the gang rape of a Class IX student after kidnapping her from Chhamunda village in Ganjam district on February 18.

Danda Nayak (21) and Rabindra alias Bhalu Behera (26) of Chhamunda village were arrested from Karasingi, near Jagannath Prasad, said Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bhanjanagar R Ch Sethi.

Police arrested the duo while they were trying to escape to Surat in Gujarat, he said adding that one more accused person in the sensational rape case was still at large.

Though the incident took place on February 18, it came to light only on last week, when the victim lodged an FIR on March 6.

The victim, according to the police was kidnapped by three persons on February 18, while she was in the village market. They had taken her in a car towards Bhubaneswar by closing her eyes, police said.

The victim was going to her sister?s house at Bhubaneswar from Baramunda Bus-stand. She narrated the story to her sister. They had come to village and informed their parents about the incident. ?The village committee was trying to solve the matter without lodging FIR. The victim had lodged FIR when it failed," police said.

?While gang rape was confirmed, we however did not find any eevidence about the allegation of kidnap?, SDPO said.
