Cuttack: A man was arrested today by the Cuttack police and forwarded to the court for duping money from people by faking his son's cancer.

The accused has been identified as Sukant Puhana from Gudari area of Bhadrak. According to sources, Puhana lied to an employee of a private media house that his son is suffering from cancer and took Rs 10,000.

However, suspecting Puhana's intentions, the media house employee informed the police about the matter. Later, after tracking Puhana’s number, police reached his house to probe the matter.

After investigation, it was revealed that the accused was a habitual offender and had duped many people in a similar manner before, informed sources.

Speaking to OTV, Sudhanshu Bhushan Jena, Inspector-in-charge of  Sadar police station said,”On April 24, we got information about this man Puhana who used to dupe people by lying that his son is suffering from cancer. After tracking his phone number, we raided his house and arrested him.”

In another case last month in Cuttack, a person was detained by the police for allegedly duping students on the pretext of helping them to clear Plus-II examination.

The accused, Umakant Singh, a resident of Nilagiri area of Balasore had allegedly taken Rs 20,000 each from over 40 students.
