Malkangiri: A day after police revealed a sexual assault angle in the Malkangiri student death case at a Sevashram residential school in the district, the state government today provided an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to family of the deceased girl.

Kalimela Tehsildar today handed over the compensation amount to family members of the girl at their MV-29 village.

Earlier on Saturday, the district police arrested Biswajit Sarkar, the headmaster of Sikhapali Residential School based on the writing on notebook of the deceased minor girl Bandana Sarkar in which she had mentioned about the sexual abuse by her headmaster.

Another girl of the same school had also brought allegations of sexual harassment against the headmaster.

On August 2, a hostel warden of the residential school spotted Bandana lying in a pool of blood with her wrist slit, inside the computer room of the school.

Later she was rushed to Malkangiri hospital where doctors declared her brought-dead. An autopsy report has clarified that she died of excessive bleeding.
