Malkangiri: The fire department personnel today recovered bodies of the four persons who had gone missing in Darlabandha canal under Nakamamudi panchayat of the district on Monday.

As per sources, the deceased include three women and a child while three of them were identified as the members of one family.

Reportedly, five teams from Malkangiri, Balimela, Khairput, Gumma and Mathili were engaged in rescue operation since yesterday to trace the missing four.

The incident occurred when around seven persons were returning home after working in their agriculture fields. Suddenly, the boat lost its balance and capsized in the canal. While three of them managed to swim back to the banks, others went missing.

Soon after the bodies were recovered today, they were sent to Chitrakonda hospital for an autopsy, sources said.

Meanwhile, the local Tehsildar has assured compensation for the family of the deceased persons.
