In Kendrapara, Town Police have detained at least four individuals, who are suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals and are currently verifying their documents. Jambu Marine Police have increased vigilance along the sea route, using patrolling boats to monitor possible infiltration via the coastline.
In Bhadrak, police have taken 17 suspicious youths into custody. These individuals had been under surveillance for a long period and were living in different parts of Bhadrak town while working as itinerant vendors.
Simultaneous searches and verification drives are being carried out in Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Paradip, and Jagatsinghpur districts. In some locations, suspects fled their homes, while in others, arrests were made after intensified checks.
District administrations across the region have moved into full action mode following firm directives from the State government to tighten scrutiny and ensure public safety.
However, no comments were received from the police in this regard.
Earlier, Kendrapara Police had launched stringent checking drives across multiple locations, including Duhuria, Garapur, Rajkanika, Pattamundai, Rajnagar and Mahakalpada.
Worth mentioning, Jagatsinghpur Police previously carried out a large-scale midnight raid on Sunday at Beherampur slum near Tarikunda locality under Sadar police limits, detaining four suspected Bangladeshi nationals and recovering a significant quantity of weapons from them.
Sources confirmed that a country-made revolver, machetes, cutters and multiple sharp weapons were seized from a rented house allegedly constructed in the district and occupied illegally over the past four years.
The main accused, house owner Sikandar Alam alias Siku, fled the spot moments before the raid and remains absconding. Three platoons of force have been deployed as police broke open locked structures and continued searches across the settlement.
In a crackdown on illegal constructions earlier on November 16, Jagatsinghpur district administration demolished the house of the suspected Bangladeshi national in Beherampur Basti.
The demolition drive was carried out using a bulldozer under the supervision of the local Magistrate and Sub-Collector, with a total of 10 houses razed during the operation.
