The counting of donation from hundis at the Maa Majhighariani temple, the presiding deity of Rayagada, has begun on Monday.
In the previous counting conducted in July, the total donation amount had exceeded Rs 1 crore and 4 lakh.
For today’s counting process, around 250 women volunteers from various voluntary organisations have been engaged. The hundis are being opened and the cash counted under tight police security, in the presence of the Tehsildar and members of the temple management committee.
The counting of donations from all nine hundis of the temple is underway and is expected to be completed this evening.
"I have come to Maa Majhighariani Temple to count the donation from the hundis. I am so fortunate to offer service for the Goddess. I express my gratitude before the Goddess. I have been coming to the temple for this purpose for the last four years," said B Shrabanti, a woman volunteer.
