The recently published preliminary examination results for the Leave Training Reserve (LTR) Hindi Teacher recruitment have triggered widespread debate, particularly due to the shockingly low cut-off marks declared for certain categories.
The preliminary test, conducted on the 16th of this month, saw its results released on Monday. What has surprised many is that the Scheduled Caste (SC) category cut-off has been fixed at just 1 mark out of 100, meaning even candidates scoring the bare minimum have qualified for the main examination.
Additionally, the cut-off for SC women candidates has been set marginally higher at 2.5 marks, prompting questions over the rationale behind such low thresholds.

The situation has further intensified with concerns over two different cut-off marks being announced within the same category, leading to confusion and criticism among aspirants. For the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category, the cut-off has been set at 2.75 marks, while ST women have been given a slightly higher cut-off of 3 marks.
In contrast, the cut-off for candidates from the SEBC category stands at 23.5, for the General category at 29, and for ex-servicemen at 30 marks.
Education observers and job aspirants are questioning how a recruitment process for teachers—who are expected to maintain high academic standards—can allow candidates with such low scores to progress to the next stage.
