Bolangir: A day after being arrested, 70 members including the president of Budi Anchal Sangram Parishad, an anti-project organization spearheading the campaign against the Lower Suktel project in Bolangir have launcheed a hunger strike unto death from today.

They were arrested yesterday while staging demonstration at the proposed project site alleging that they were not informed regarding the construction of the dam. On the other hand, district administration refuted such allegation.

Hundreds of protesters on Tuesday held demonstration near the construction site shouting anti-government slogans for going ahead with the project. They alleged that the government, which had earlier promised to apprise them regarding the work in advance, has hoodwinked the locals.

Police tried hard to disperse the agitators while they attempted to thwart government’s move. Ultimately, police arrested them as they were in no mood to allow the officials to continue work. Some members were released on personal bond while others were forwarded to court, police said.
