Low-pressure system may hasten monsoon onset over Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre today informed that a low-pressure system is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal by June 20 and it is likely to power the southwest monsoon onset over Odisha.

The monsoon will onset over north eastern States including North Bengal and Sikkim in the next two days, informed HR Biswas, director of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.

“The monsoon has advanced in several north eastern States. We expect that monsoon onset over Odisha will hasten as conditions are becoming favourable as a low pressure system in the next four to five days,” said Biswas.

Biswas further informed that there will be sharp decline in the temperature in coastal districts. However, heat wave conditions will prevail in isolated parts of the State including north and southern parts.

Meanwhile, eight places in Odisha recorded temperature above 40 degree Celsius today. As per the latest weather bulletin, Titlagarh and Malkangiri recorded a maximum day temperature of 43 degreeC, followed by Jharsuguda (42.8) and Sambalpur (42.2).
