New Delhi: Good news for the people of the state and especially for lovers of modern art and classical Odissi dance. International acclaimed Odia painter and pioneer of modern art Jatin Dash has been nominated for the prestigious Padma Bhushan and renowned Odissi dance exponent Dr Minati Mishra has been nominated for the Padmashree just on the eve of the Republic Day celebrations. The Government of India today announced the names of 109 eminent persons from several areas for the three categories of Padma awards.

Jatin Dash needs no introduction. So also Dr Minati Mishra. Both are giants in their own specialised fields. In a career spanning over 50 years internationally acclaimed Jatin Dash has showcased his paintings in many a famous exhibition and his paintings adore the walls of several world famous museums and art galleries. Surrealistic painting is his forte. He is a recipient of many national and international awards. Said he,"Yes, I was happy on receiving the information. But that was temporary and lasted for just one minute. I shall be really happy when the state of Odisha would really do something for the development of art and culture."       

Dr Minati Mishra has been nominated for the prestigious Padmashree. She is an exceptionally talented Odissi exponent and was instrumental in popularising Odisha`s classical dance in the international arena."I am happy for being nominated for the award,"said the famous dancer. 

The Government of India has announced the names of 109 persons for the three categories of Padma. While five of them have been chosen for Padma Bibhushan, 27 2ould get the Padma Bhushan and 77 persons would revive the Padmashree. Famous Assamese singer Bhupen Hazarika who passed away recently has been nominated for the Padma Bibhushan posthumously. The list of Padma Bhushan recipients are filmstar Dharmendra, actress and social activist Shabana Azmi. Likewise, bhajan singer Anoop Jalota, woman cricketer Jhulan Goswami and sportsman Limba Ram have been nominated for Padmashree.
