Panic gripped residents of Bhubaneswar after a lone burglar, was caught carrying out daring thefts in the state capital. The accused, described by locals as ‘one-man army’ has been committing back-to-back thefts in the Ransinghpur area of Dumuduma.
He has been named ‘one-man army’ due to the manner in which he operated single-handedly, entering into houses and decamping with gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees.
According to reports, the burglar carefully surveys the locality before executing his crimes. CCTV footage from the area has reportedly captured visuals of the suspect conducting reconnaissance prior to targeting houses. Investigators believe his act is completely pre-planned and carried out with precision.
The accused breaks into residences when it is most vulnerable and swiftly escapes after committing the thefts. Recently, he escaped with around 81 grams of gold ornaments, along with some cash from a house.
The matter came to the fore after the homeowner, Manabendra Bishoi, lodged a formal complaint at the concerned police station. Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and have intensified efforts to trace and apprehend the accused.
CCTV footage from nearby areas is being scrutinized to identify the suspect and track his movements. The incident has sparked concern among residents over the security of residential neighbourhoods in the capital city.
Locals have urged authorities to enhance night patrolling and strengthen surveillance measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
