Cuttack: Due to the derailment of Mumbai-Bhubaneswar Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) Express near Nergundi railway station in Cuttack early morning today, train services on the route was affected with the Railway authorities diverting several trains running on the line.

As per reports, five trains have been diverted through Naraj

  • 12880 Bhubaneswar-LTT Express diverted via Naraj
  • 58132 Puri-Rourkela Passenger diverted via Naraj Naraj
  • 18426 Durg-Puri Express diverted via Naraj
  • 12831 Dhanbad-Bhubaneswar Rajyarani Express diverted via Naraj
  • 68413 Talcher-PURI MEMU diverted via Naraj

As many as 20 passengers were reportedly injured and five among have received critical injuries after eight coaches of the super-fast express derailed after hitting a guard van of a goods train between Salagaon and Nergundi in Cuttack possibly due to dense fog. While five coaches derailed, three other coaches partially displaced from the tracks.

The five critically injured passengers have been identified as Jitendra Padhi, Puspanjali Jatwar, Purnachandra Nayak, Sarat Chandra Behera and Aswini Kumar Lenka.

Meanwhile, fire personnel, railway officials and police have reached the spot and initiated a rescue operation to clear the railway track in order to resume train services on the route at the earliest.

The ECoR has issued helpline numbers 0671-1072 (Cuttack), 0674-1072 (Khurda Road), 18003457401/402 (Bhubaneswar headquarters), 0674-1072 (Bhubaneswar station) and 06752-1072 (Puri) for information on the accident and injured passengers apart from rescue & relief operations.
