Bhubaneswar: Tension erupted at Bhubaneswar-based Vivekanand Hospital following the death of a patient as family members of the deceased along with local villagers vandalised the hospital premises alleging medical negligence.

Sources said one Aditya Sahoo of Khandagiri area was admitted to the hospital after an accident some days ago. As per the doctor's advice, the family members of the victim deposited around Rs 2.5 lakh for his treatment.

After the surgery, it is claimed that doctors confirmed Sahoo was doing fine and will recuperate well. Even according to the family members, Sahoo was able to talk with others.

As per allegations, the doctors all of a sudden declared Sahoo dead today morning, much to the shock of the family members.

Alleging negligence, the kin of the deceased Sahoo blamed the hospital authorities.

On the other hand, as the hospital authorities did not hand over the dead body to family members and demanded Rs 84,000 more for clearance, locals went berserk and ransacked properties inside the hospital.

Sahoo's body was later sent to post-mortem after the police reached the spot and pacified the agitated public.

"I was at the spot when doctors attending Aditya in the       ICU ward had stated that he was recovering well, but I don't know what happened thereafter. The authorities will have to refund all the money spent on the treatment and also pay compensation of Rs 15 lakh to the parents of the deceased," said a relative of the deceased.
