Locals block NH as truck mows down woman in Rourkela

Rourkela: Tension ran high in Rourkela today after a woman was crushed to death by a speeding truck near Panposh Hockey Chhak here this morning.

Following the incident, irate locals blocked National Highway-143 demanding action against the truck driver and urged the administration to take immediate steps to minimise the road accidents in the area.

The locals further alleged that no step has been taken by police or NHAI authorities to check the road accidents. Reportedly, hundreds of vehicles remained stranded as the locals placed the body of the deceased woman on the road to block the NH.

“The identity of the woman has not been ascertained. After mowing down her, the driver and helper of the truck absconded,” said a local.

Soon, massive police force was deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident during the road blockade.

However, the blockade was later removed only after police was successful in pacifying the irate locals. As per sources, the administration has assured that new traffic post would be installed in the area along with deployment of traffic police to put a check on the recurring accidents.
