Litchi farmers in Odisha face hard time due to unseasonal rain

Sundargarh: Farmers in Bania Tehsil area of Sundargarh district are facing a hard time with unseasonal rain damaging Litchi crop.

Not only farmers but also traders have also been adversely affected by the unseasonal rain, informed sources.

"Compared to previous years, Litchi production is a little less this year, but the unseasonal rains have further created problems for us as fruits were infested by worms. If the Horticulture department comes forward to help us we will be benefitted," said Meghnad Sandil, a farmer.

On the other hand, the Horticulture department has said that the farmers will be provided assistance only after they approach the officials.

"Farmers have to remain cautious to save Litchi from getting affected by worms. So I request them to contact us on a regular basis," said Horticulture Department official, Sanjeev Mohanty.
